Rush Hour Fatal Accident on I-476
the Broomall Fire Co. along with mutual aid from Radnor FC & Narberth EMS were alerted to a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on I-476 SB near MM 11.2. First arriving units found a 3 vehicle accident involving a single overturned utility van on the Southbound lanes and two tractor trailers in the Northbound lanes with the roadway shut down. Fire & EMS units immediately began triaging the incident, initiate care to those injured, notify additional agencies for assistance & Chief 53 established 476 Command. Unfortunately the accident resulted in a single fatality and several other non-life threatening injuries.
Over the next 10+ hours numerous agencies worked together in different stages of recovery to reopen I-476. BFC crews from Squad 53 & Squad 15 stood-by on scene until the early morning hours for fire & hazards protection while towing/recovery teams coordinated the precarious clean-up.
The BFC wishes to express our condolences to the family of the single fatality and we’d like to thank our mutual aid partners for their response and assistance with this incident. The cause of this accident is under investigation by PSP.
