Easter House Fire; Injures One FF
Shortly before 2pm on Easter Sunday, the Broomall Fire Co. along with mutual aid agencies were alerted for a reported shed fire in the 100blk of Beechtree Drive, Marple Twp. First arriving officers from MTPD found the shed fire had extended to an attached garage and helped verify all occupants were clear of the residence. Engine 53 arrived as the first due engine and initiated a fire attack to the garage and interior of the house, while Ladder 41 (Newtown Square Fire Co.) began a search. Squad 53 arrived a short time later and conducted a reverse lay from Engine 53 to the closest hydrant located up the street from the scene. Additional arriving units from Manoa Fire Co. assisted with overhaul and ventilation, while Garrettford-Drexel Hill Fire Co. provided the RIT assignment.
Units remained on scene for several house overhauling and checking of extension. No civilian injuries were reported. One firefighter suffered a serious medical event and was transported by Marple EMS to an area hospital for treatment. The BFC sends our prayers and best wishes to that firefighter and their family for a speedy recovery.
Special thank you to Berwyn Fire Co. & South Media Fire Co. for covering Marple & Newtown Twps during the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
