Battery Powered Hoverboard Ignites Apartment Fire
At approximately 430pm this past Saturday, Co. 53 along with mutual aid units were alerted to a reported apartment bldg fire in the 3000blk of West Chester Pike in Marple Twp. Arriving minutes after dispatch, Engine & Truck 53 investigated finding a smoke condition in a lower level apartment. Crews were able to quickly locate a malfunctioning lithium ion powered hover board and extinguished the small fire.
Crews removed the board from the building and spent time checking for extension and clearing residual smoke. No injuries were reported and D/C Lefferts had West Chester Pike Command.
