BFC Hosts Heavy Vehicle Rescue Course
Over a period of three days the Broomall Fire Co. hosted RescueTechs, LLC and their Heavy Vehicle Rescue course. The course designed more towards the advanced rescuer placed firefighters in practical scenarios which tested their abilities to work through these low frequency, high risk type incidents and provide the ability to hone our skills.
Broomall crews were joined by our District 10 partners from Radnor Fire Co. and Newtown Square Fire Co. along with our counterparts from Springfield Fire Co. While accidents involving commercial vehicles can occur anyplace our specific target hazard is Interstate 476 (the Blue Route). With close to 80% of Interstate 476 in Delaware County being covered in some fashion by three of these companies (Broomall, Radnor, & Springfield), courses such as these are very beneficial.
The logistics of coordinating this course have been in play for over a year and the BFC would like to thank the following for their assistance in making it happen:
Eric and his team (Rich, Greg, & Tyler) from RescueTechs.
K&S Towing & Recovery for helping with movement of vehicles and spending two days with us working on the rescue scenarios.
Janeway Towing (Jamie Dougherty) and his team for providing the large trucks, buses, and trailers.
Jamison’s Towing & Shorty’s for providing and moving the smaller passenger vehicles.
Rob Vannicolo of Newtown Twp. for donating one of the large trucks.
Marple Township for the use of the property behind our fire station.
Luigi & Giovanni’s Catering and Thunderbird Pizza for providing meals the last two days.
